Here's a dirty little secret... And it even has to do with a song. I LOVE Taylor Swift. I like singing her tunes, and think she's fantastical. However. Her new song, "22," is ridiculous! If you would like you can review the lyrics below, if, however you are like me and already know the lyrics please feel free to skip all the "ah ah, oh yeahs!"
"It feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters
And make fun of our exes, ah ah, ah ah.
It feels like a perfect night for breakfast at midnight
To fall in love with strangers, ah ah, ah ah.
Yeah,
We're happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time
It's miserable and magical, oh, yeah
Tonight's the night when we forget about the deadlines
It's time
Uh oh!
I don't know about you
But I'm feeling 22
Everything will be alright
If you keep me next to you
You don't know about me
But I'll bet you want to
Everything will be alright
If we just keep dancing like we're
22
22
It seems like one of those nights,
This place is too crowded.
Too many cool kids, ah ah, ah ah (who's Taylor Swift anyway, ew?)
It seems like one of those nights,
We ditch the whole scene and end up dreaming
Instead of sleeping.
Yeah,
We're happy, free, confused, and lonely in the best way
It's miserable and magical, oh, yeah
Tonight's the night when we forget about the heartbreaks
It's time
Uh oh!
I don't know about you
But I'm feeling 22
Everything will be alright
If you keep me next to you
You don't know about me
But I'll bet you want to
Everything will be alright (alright)
If we just keep dancing like we're
22
22
I don't know about you
22
22
It feels like one of those nights,
We ditch the whole scene.
It feels like one of those nights,
We won't be sleeping.
It feels like one of those nights,
You look like bad news,
I gotta have you,
I gotta have you.
Oh oh yeah hey!
I don't know about you
But I'm feeling 22
Everything will be alright
If you keep me next to you
You don't know about me (you don't know about me)
But I'll bet you want to
Everything will be alright
If we just keep dancing like we're
22
22
22, yeah, yeah
22, yeah, yeah, yeah
It feels like one of those nights,
We ditch the whole scene
It feels like one of those nights,
We won't be sleeping
It feels like one of those nights,
You look like bad news,
I gotta have you,
I gotta have you."
Maybe I only have an issue with this song because I AM 22, but don't you think that by 22 you should be over getting with guys who "look like bad news?" I don't want to live in a world where being 22 doesn't mean you behave like an Adult! I understand that some 22 year olds aren't in the same place as me (married, with a child, living in England and traveling the world), but a lot of 22 year olds are graduating college, should be holding down full time jobs, and shouldn't be partying, kissing strangers, and being...well... Stupid! Yeah, 22 is young, there is TONS of life left before you, but by 22 you should be able to "have fun" like a smart person! I have tons of fun and I do it with my husband, my child, and my sensibilities. I mean for goodness sake I am only 22 years old and I lack the fear that so many have about travelling the world. I'm sure I sound like a grouchy old woman who can't take the "lightheartedness" of this song. However, it is songs, ideas, and social interactions like this that encourage people to remain children, to not grow up. Our world has allowed for people who are over the age of 22 to remain at the mental age of 18. We no longer expect people to "act their age," but instead tell people to live their lives as they will. People are going about still living with mommy and daddy at 2/, they aren't taking on responsibilities. I realise that I am not your average 22 year old, yes. I "grew up" at the age of 16 when I had two full time jobs and was still in high school. However, I was expected to pay for my things and I was expected to grow up, so I did. As soon as we quite expecting people to be responsible, responsibility went out the window. So go ahead, live your life like your 22. Have a job. Have meaningful relationships. Have loads of fun. Travel the world. But be grown up. Sorry Taylor. Not a fan of this new "hit."

Confession....

Rhapsody, my most amazing daughter, is now 8 months and 2 weeks old! And
I think it is time for a little momma confession. I. Hate. Breast feeding. Yep, I hate it! I have been feeding her since the day she was born. And until 2 months ago she ate me and only me. She wouldn't touch a bottle. Maybe this is what caused my hatred of all things boob. The fact that I had to feed her every hour, on the hour, was exhausting. That's barely enough time to get a shower in, let alone have a life outside of "which boob was last?" Now don't get me wrong, I love that I can feed Rhaps. I love not spending money on Formula. I love that I am blessed in being able to continue feeding past the 6 month mark, and will most likely make it to a year. Put that all aside though, and I hate every moment! I hate that Rhaps grabs my face, and tries to put her fingers in my mouth. I hate when she pops off, leaving me exposed to the disapproving eye. I hate having to search for a place to feed a screaming baby. Do I feel like this makes me a bad mom? The fact that I hate feeding my child? NO! Because I do it anyways! I know so much about breast feeding because I wanted to make sure I was doing it right to provide the BEST start for my princess. I love counselling other moms on my own experience, as well as what research says. I've even considered going into school to become a "mommy Counselor" for lack of another word. And I'll be damned of anyone says I am a "bad" mom because I can't wait to be done breast feeding! It has been a privilege to feed my daughter, and I will do the same with any other babies I have. However, the biggest and most sacred part of parent-hood is putting your wants and needs last. I feel that my dislike for the boob has been God's way of teaching me to be a better mom.
There is an end in sight! Rhapsody had actually began to ween herself. She eats 3 to 5 meals a day with minimal breast feeding in between. My supply has seriously lowered and she doesn't seem to mind. Thank goodness for the small blessings!

22... "WHAT! You're only 22!"
I hear it all the time.. "What! You're how young!?" grrrr... I get so tired of hearing this! I guess for me it is because 22 years of my life have been lived to the utmost fullest. I have had some really horrible things happen to me, along with the miraculous, and awe inspiring. At a singular time I feel both too young and too old for what has been my version of life.
On this 22nd year, I find myself in such a wonderful and amazing place. Physically, mentally, and emotionally I am better than I have ever been before. I am living in England, a country full of history, castles, fairytales, and adventure. I have a husband who loves me more than I have ever loved myself. I have my annoying, boisterous, and lovable pooches. And I have my daughter. My dear Rhapsody. Who has brought me a fuller, more noteworthy life, with Joy I never thought a child would bring. Twenty two isn't looking so bad for me!
And as my twenty third year of life is staring me in the face, for the first time that I can remember I can look forward without fear or apprehension. I know that I have my family and my God beside me to lead me through the years to come. I welcome the joy, frustration, love, and new friendships that this next year will hold for me. I know there is much that will happen between now and twenty three. I stand with my back straight and ready for whatever it is Life will give me now. Join me in another year of Military, Motherhood, and Madness. What? I needed another M. Everyone loves alliteration!
